Combination Vaccines

Combination vaccines began to appear on the market in 2003, with the introduction of PEDIARIX. The first 5-in-1 vaccine was developed because parents were becoming wary of giving their tiny children five shots on one "well visit." Pediarix is a combination of DTaP + Hepatitis B + polio, injecting seven vaccine antigens but using only one shot, one syringe.

Since that time, many combination vaccines have been developed. Most are used in developing countries to decrease the amount of biological waste (plastic syringes and needles) and healthcare workers can tell unsuspecting parents their infant is getting "protected from several infections by getting just this one shot." However, the side effect profiles of the combination vaccines are extensive. We are gathering the information here for your convenience.
